For example: Alligators don't really live in the NYC sewers. I was like "WHAT?!" I had honestly always believed that was true! It was a huge disappointment when I found out that it wasn't!
Here's another one. Shangri-La. When I found out that Shangri-La was a fictional place, I almost cried. Don't ask me why, but I had always thought that Shangri-La was where the Dalai-Lama lived!
According to the all-knowing Wikipedia:
That was like a kick to the stomach... I was going to live there when I grew up!!!! (Although I think that everyone is lying because they're covering it up...)"Shangri-La is a fictional place described in the 1933 novel "Lost Horizon" by British author James Hilton. In the book, "Shangri-La" is a mystical, harmonious valley, gently guided from a lamasery enclosed in the western end of the Kunlun Mountains. Shangri-La has become synonymous with any earthly paradise but particularly a mythical Himalayan utopia — a permanently happy land, isolated from the outside world. In the novel Lost Horizon, the people who live at Shangri-La are almost immortal, living years beyond the normal lifespan and only very slowly aging in appearance."
Do you want another one?
